Healing, to me, is a constantly evolving. It started with accepting what had happened to me. I hope that one day I will confide in someone about my experience and truly heal from it.

I would tell other survivors that they are loved and to receive that and to love themselves. I would also tell them that their story isn't over it is only beginning, they are now in charge and get to choose how it will continue. It is not their fault.

I finally divorced my abuser after 45 years. It is not easy but it is better. Of course no relationship is 100% awful 100% of the time. That’s what helped keep me in it. But, I now know that I deserve more than the crumbs I got in my abusive marriage.

Three beautiful kids later, three houses later, and 10 years later, I finally had the courage to leave.

Give yourself grace and be patient with the process. There isn't a deadline on healing. To be honest, you may never get over the pain and trauma, but each day you choose to fight and live is another day you get to celebrate.

To anyone who needs hope if you need a hug know I'm one you can trust to pray for you. I'll do my level best to support you. Be strong my dears and know God loves you and will help you heal too. Just ask and you shall find. I'm here too if you need me at all. Hoping to go to a take back the night event this year in villagenear my town.

Healing to me means realising none of this was ever my fault - it wasn’t what I was wearing or because I was drunk. And it also means working hard to make sure women and girls are safe
